One Day Smalti Intensive Workshop
This workshop explores the rich, colorful, traditional material called smalti, a Byzantine glass that has been made in Italy for centuries. The Chicago Mosaic School acquired the largest inventory of this material in the United States from the St. Louis Basilica (the largest mosaic installation in the United States, built between 1911-1988). Our students have the opportunity to work with this unique material and learn about applications and cutting. Participants will be introduced to the hammer & hardie, thinset, color, and texture in mosaics. Students will complete a 5” x 5” piece. All tools and supplies are provided. Class size is limited to 10.
