Ravenna Technique (Ancient Mosaic Reproduction) with Sue Giannotti
Recreating a mosaic from a classic Roman or Byzantine work gives students insight into the history of the mosaic making process. Using specific images from iconic ancient mosaics, students will learn the double reverse method, setting smalti and/or marble tesserae into a temporary clay bed and then learning the transfer process to a permanent substrate. This workshop is intended to improve your skills with the hammer and hardie as well as learn this technique that is taught today in several studios in Ravenna. The school’s vast selection of smalti and stone, as well as use of our excellent tools are included in the cost of the workshop. Class limited to 8.
