Mosaic III (was Direct Method)

Working directly on thinset is one of the best techniques for creating many mosaic projects on a small or large scale, on flat or 3D substrates. Students will learn to work in sections by ‘dividing’ their cartoon and to create work using a  thick mortar bed for their tessera.  The class will discuss the different kinds of thinset and their properties, see how to transfer the drawing, color the mortar, how to find the correct thickness of the mortar bed, and how deep to set the tesserae, etc.

During this 6 week course, students will explore these techniques by creating 3 separate studies.  Students are encouraged to bring a drawing, sketch or pictures from which to choose a final image for one of the studies.

All materials and use of tools is provided.
