Ostia Antica Workshop with Alessandro Lugari – New Dates to be Announced!

This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.

Roman mosaicist and historian Alessandro Lugari works for the city of Rome, where–with over 30 years of mosaic conservation experience–he directs and teaches mosaic conservation projects and classes. CMS is proud to offer an exclusive opportunity to use his extensive knowledge through a fun approach to mosaic techniques of classical mosaicists. This approach enables artists to work easier, smarter, faster and create bold, expressive, representational work inspired by the dramatic, graphic 2-color mosaics of Ostia Antica, the historic Italian port city of Rome.

In this 5-day workshop, students experience the process and learn smart techniques for the creating the cartoon, cutting and setting the stones.  Using two mosaic setting techniques (Ravenna and direct) students use this process while recreating a mosaic image from Ostia Antica. Students can bring the skills learned in this workshop to inspire and impact their own studio practice.  Even if modern mosaics are more your style, there are so many new mosaic skills, techniques and tips to be learned from the Romans – literally and figuratively.  When in Chicago, do as the Romans do…please join us for this unique, fun, and educational experience!

All materials are included.

Prerequisites: Hammer and Hardie Workshop, Mosaic III (was Direct Method Workshop).
